Job Description
Hamptons United Methodist Church seeks an enthusiastic and creative assistant director to help manage our summer camp in August 2022. The assistant director is responsible for the overall care and wellbeing of the campers. In this role, the duties include developing, facilitating, and overseeing the camp program on a day-to-day basis alongside the director. The assistant director will be faithful in upholding the mission of the Hamptons UMC camp.
Accountability
The summer camp assistant director is responsible to the camp director.
Responsibilities
Personnel
- Assist in recruiting, hiring, supervising, and supporting summer camp staff and schedules
- Assist in developing training materials for pre-camp staff training and parent orientation
- Provide opportunities for professional development, spiritual and personal growth for camp staff; evaluate camp staff
- Participate, plan, and lead effective staff meetings weekly
- Ensure policies and practices in staff manual are followed such as our safe sanctuary policy etc.
Management & Administration
- Effectively communicate and build relationships with campers, parents, staff, and volunteers
- Keep attendance and camp fee records
- Collect photos and videos to for use on church website and social media
Program
- Plan, guide and oversee the summer camp program along with camp director
- Plan daily camp activities and creative activity schedules
- Facilitate all aspects of the summer camp program including policies and procedures in a safe, timely, efficient manner
- Monitor staff supervision of campers at designated locations
- Monitor the security and use of program materials and inform camp director of materials needed weekly
- Prioritize the safety of all campers to ensure an excellent camp experience
- Make sure program areas are clean, organized, and sanitized.
- Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the program and staff
Qualifications
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Experience in working with children, and with children’s programs in a leadership role
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations specific to camps
- Must pass a background check
- Provide proof of Covid vaccines and boosters at least 2 weeks prior to the start of camp
- CPR/First Aid certified
- Provide vaccine proof prior to start of camp
- The ability to hire, train, and oversee camp staff
- The ability to plan and develop camp program, as well as modify activities when required
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational and record-keeping skills

Dates: July 18-22 Mandatory staff training and orientation
Aug 8-Sept 2 Program dates with campers
Camp Work Hours: 8am-4:30pm
Position Starts Immediately; 2-4hrs of program planning with director weekly
